Gonna get the idea that’s gonna ruin you?

Gonna get the idea that’s gonna ruin you?

If you’ve used a film camera, you must have used Kodak film.

For younger people, Kodak was as famous as Coca-Cola or McDonalds. The undisputed world leader in photo film.

It was Kodak who invented the digital camera.

One day in 1976, the electronic engineer Steve Sasson presented a prototype camera that captured images to broadcast them on TV.

“Why would people want to see their pictures on TV?” the CEO at the time asked him.

Without an answer, the engineer put the camera back in the boxes.

We know what happened next: swept away by digital technology in the 2000s and placed under the bankruptcy regime for more than a year, there is nothing left of Kodak today.

The reason is simple: Kodak made colossal margins on the film and none on the cameras. They decided to milk the cash cow all the way through.

The old one is certainly doomed, but it provides the company with the majority of its resources and therefore cannot be swept away.

The new one represents the future, but without any guarantee of success, and it still provides few resources and therefore does not have a voice.

In a budget meeting for resource allocation, it has no chance.

When a business model is good, why change it?

Because the world is changing…

It may be worthwhile to sit down for a few hours and ask yourself what things can be improved or changed to avoid such an end.
